Well, I have now got this far and finally read this thread.
    Well done Boffer.
Your discovery of that pic throws proper light on the matter.

Often we forget that a member of royalty commissioned jewels as gifts as well as jewels for themselves.

But I have not yet studied the case you put, Boffer. It was your pic that triggered this message.
I'll set aside this matter as a subsidiary project when finished the book.

Page 164 note 3 uses the word "confusingly" which should be a warning to us all. It does appear that at least one researcher for QD was too hasty to try to make things fit an expectation. Many of us have been guilty of that sort of blunder. But surely a "confusion" like that was studied by at least one other researcher if not the whole team. Ok, they lose some points there but so far I have been enormously impressed by the amount of research and the brilliant and informative footnotes.

    Congratulations to the research team.

I have noted how we are getting some o/t information in the footnotes, for jewels that are no longer in the Queen's collection. More than once I have felt the team has pitched some information to suit the interests of members of this RJWMB. It's as though someone argued they should include these side issues for our benefit. That "Greek-style tiara" is an example. Wiser to stick to the knitting !
Don't get me wrong. I do appreciate the o/t bits.

So Boffer, I need to add that the full story of all the alterations to an o/t tiara is not within the ambit of the book.

Forgive me for being longwinded but I wanted to record this much of my reactions in one message.
