As a general rule, the coat brooch is transferred to the dress during the indoor part of an event, so the Cullinans would still be worn and not have to be guarded apart from as an ornament on the well protected Queen... The only exception is on the extremely rare occasions when another brooch is worn on the dress beneath but I've only seen this happen about 2 or 3 times. --Previous Message-- : Later I realized that the Commonwealth : luncheon was held at Marlborough House, and : the Queen met with Stephen Harper was at : Buckingham Palace. So there was no need to : wear the maple leaf brooch to the lunch. : : On Tuesday, however, if she removed her coat : during lunch at Westminster Hall, she needed : a brooch on her dress. And someone had to : guard Cullinans III and IV! Or maybe they : went into the famous purse. : : I've been wondering whether the small brooch : on the Queen's jacket for the Wenesday : luncheon was connected with the : Commonwealth. :
