Princess Françoise's son, Prince Michael of Greece, writes in his book "Mémoires insolites", that his father died pennyless when he was only one year old. The widowed Princess Françoise was obliged to sell the family jewels, and also the Villa Anastasia in Rome was sold (it had been bought with the money of Christopher's first wife Nancy Stewart Worthington Leeds - Princess Anastasia of Greece) . When Michael's maternal grand-mother died in 1961 he inherited his share of the Orléans fortune, which in those years was quite considerable.
