You are right Tamara, it's a matter of proportion of sizes. I also had the impression that this was a big tiara because I'd see Queen Elizabeth's pictures wearing it, and it really looked like a more substantial tiara on her. And that's why I was so surprised with the tiara's size when I saw it live, such a small piece, but then again a very, very elegant and beautiful piece.
On the otherhand, on that same exibition was displayed the Essex tiara, worn by Lady Churchill at the 1953 coronation and by Pss Margaretha of Romania as bridal tiara, and this one was much bigger in hight and diameter than I was expecting. The Essex is what I call a really big tiara.
