Perhaps I am thinking of another account, I seem to recall reading about American soldiers storming a German schloss and the princesses within trading their jewels in exchange for papers for safe passage over the border, foodstuffs and other supplies. I am not saying this is the fate of those jewels, but simply repeating an account I read somewhere with the common theme of princesses, American soldiers and valuable jewels.
