    Fabulous aquamarines!

As far as I know they decided to alter the shape of the tiara because the previous design was too frail to suport these huge aquamarines. Queen Ena had it for some time but the struture was not very secure I think.

The previous version of the tiara was originally made to place pendant pearls where the aquamarines were after placed, and the pearls were much lighter of course. It was a far more beautiful tiara then indeed, I totally agree.

Queen Ena became in love with aquamarines when she saw her cousin Empress Alexandra of Russia wearing them. She asked her husband to present her with aquamrines, but she was a bit cautioned in asking because she tought the stones would be terribly expensive, since the Romanov's were so wealthy . King Alfonso was very amused with that story and presented her with aquamarines on the next celebration. I read this story many years ago on Hola magazine.

I believe it was when Infanta Beatriz became the owner of the set that she decided to change it, and she inspired in Queen Elizabeth's Vadimir circles tiara.
