I believe in this case the court jeweller simply added a (detachable) wire with a row of pearls to the base and topped some of the spikes with (detachable) pearls. Nothing was changed to the rather delicate frame of the tiara itself.

: Well John R I was thinking more of a set of
: versatile frames with diferent stones, like
: the pearl frame that already has been made
: and worn this week, where the tiara could be
: placed, rather than changing the stones on
: the tiara itself... Changing the stones of
: the tiara frequently would certainly damage
: or weaken the struture at some point, but
: having diferent frames just to place it
: would be harmless I guess...
: Anyway, as I said, I really liked the way it
: was worn this week, it looked fabulous and
: the tiara looked great and much more
    : imposing.

: I like your suggestion for a versatile tiara
: which can be mounted with different precious
: stones. And the strange thing is, there are
: not that many out there. In that respect I
: think Queen Fabiola's Spanish Gift tiara is
: a winner and so is the GD Vladmimir, but I
: don't think this rather fragile tiara of
: Princess Mary can handle that much
    : versatility...it would simply collapse...

: As I said below, on the thread where the
    : gala
: dinner was mentioned first, I really like
: this version of the tiara this time. It
: fitted perfectly CP Mary's head and hair
: style, and makes the tiara more imposing.
    : Beautiful!
    :
: I really like the fact that the princess is
: experimenting new versions for her jewels (I
: will not mention the rubi tiara renewel...I
: also preferred the previous larger
: version...), but she is being creative and
: having fun with the pieces at her disposal.
: She's growing a love for versatile jewels
: and I find that wonderful.
    :
: And here's a sugestion for this same tiara:
: a frame with amethysts (they are not that
: expensive) or aquamarines, so the princess
: can wear it with her sets of these stones .

: This is the second time that Crown Princess
: Mary has worn her wedding tiara with the
: pearls. It looks good the time around is
    : worn properly (not slanted).

    : Big fan!
