Diamonds from the Nine Provinces Archived Message

How lovely those stones look arranged on a small collier!
That's a configuration within the reach of Queen Paola if she wanted to. She's woefully short on diamond necklaces, her two modest necklaces have gotten a lot of wear in fifty years but neither are particularly impressive.
Here are my theories why she has never tried to be creative with those diamonds like her predecessors had:

    1. She's just not a fan of jewelry.

    2. The court jeweler did a technical analysis of the Nine Provinces and told her that it was getting too old and fragile to be pulled into pieces, and advised her to leave it intact.

    3. Lillian or Fabiola kept the alternate mountings to that would allow the diamonds to be mounted on a sautoir or small collier. Perhaps King Albert was resistant on purchasing the necklace mountings due to cost, or he was afraid it would be too extravagant.

All speculation, of course. But the Belgian royal jewels are one of my favorite topics here.

: Im afraid that combination would only have
: been possible if Filip had remained
: childless with nephew Amedeo as his heir.
    :
: Still there is the prospect of a very nice
: Emerald combination for Queen Mathilde:
    :
    : * Spanish weddinggift tiara/coronet with
    : emeralds
: * the earrings of princess Lilian
: * the brooch and pendant of Queen Elisabeth
: (possibly of Empress Carlotta before her)
: * the emerald necklace tiara of Queen
    : Astrid.
    :
: I do hope Queen Fabiola will leave her grand
: jewels to either Filip directly or to a fund
: for the sovereign. The Wolfers
: necklace/tiara would make a nice bequest for
: Princess Astrid and the smaller more
: personal jewels could go to various
    : relatives and dear friends.
: Still i hope we will get to see Queen
: Fabiola herself again in all those pieces in
    : the years to come.
