Edit: Come to think of it, the hat the Queen wore on the Thames barge kept reminding me of something. Now I think it was the shape of the hats Queen Elizabeth, later Queen Mother, wore when she visited the people of London during WWII. Makes sense - QEII was visiting her Londoners via the river, and celebrating a long and generally peaceful reign.
Wearing a Queen Mary style hat to greet the Emir of Kuwait might be as close as she could get to honoring her grandmother's love of India this year?? Did Queen Mary visit Kuwait in her travels?
