The reception at Buckingham Palace is the most formal event of the year. Unlike State Banquets, the Royal gentlemen wear knee-britches and their Garter.
It was at this event a few years ago that we got a glimpse of Princess Alexandra wearing her Garter around her arm, a practice rarely seen since Queen Mary.
