The pin highlights the impracticality of the design for something to be worn as a brooch. While I was on the bus today I thought the piece might have been better as something for the petrol cap of a motor vehicle! I wish they had volunteered instead to mount 15 diamond drops to use with the Vladimir. Then we would have seen a stunning tiara worn by the Queen and by subsequent queens with superb effect and in perpetual memory of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. I was also thinking that we are all struggling here. Nobody has found a good word to say for the brooch. A very unusual situation on the RJW. --Previous Message-- : : The more I look at this brooch, the more : I'm inclined to definitely not care for the : design. Further, it's too big and the dove : representation is poorly thought out. I : absolutely hate the use of the large pin, : even though it has to be there to properly : anchor the brooch, it's tacky. : --Previous Message-- : Dmitry and Nellie - very well said! : --Previous Message-- : : Dmitry - I completely sympathise with your : feelings. : But I feel that too many things these days : are reserved for young people only, to the : detriment of standards of quality and : practicality. : That is what I had in mind. : : I keep feeling that the intended function as : a brooch was not allowed to be a priority. : The shape and dimensions are all wrong. And : the pin is placed across the wide part and : is so long that it needs to be threaded : through the fabric to stop the piece : dragging it down. : The overall look is forgettable. : I compare it with the Queen Victoria Diamond : Jubilee brooch and despair! Unfortunately I : cannot find a good pic. : --Previous Message-- : if that is what the young designers are : coming : up with, then I might suggest that they work : for the lesser end department stores. : : There is no magnificence, no grandeur, : nothing more than a little bit of : pseudo-sentimental playing around with : elements sufficient to satisfy a grade : school project, but woefully insufficient : for anything other than to be one of those : "annual" Christmas brooches put : out by Avon, or some such firm.
