It seems the princely couple does not want a gift. This morning Pieter Klein Beernink, royal reporter of De Telegraaf (the biggest newspaper in the Netherlands) told on television that the couple does not want a gift. The attendance of the people, the participation of the people, the togetherness of the people, that is what they consider as the greatest gift. I think I like that. The motto of the Investiture is "My dream for our land, inspiration for our King". The National Committee Investiture requests all inhabitants in the kingdom to tell, sing, write, dance, perform, create their ideas, their dream about how their ideal Netherlands in the future and inspire the King. The usual "National Gift" (a yacht, a suite of jewels, the restoration of a palace wing, etc.) is no longer considered, also given the present economical times. This does not prevent the Amsterdam Diamond Industry to present the new Queen with a nice new suite of jewels anyway. If they want to do that, it is still possible.
