Perhaps this is of interest, from some reading I have been doing lately. During the Homage at the Coronation of George IV - “While the peers followed in due order, 200-300 silver Coronation Medals by Pistrucci were thrown into the congregation, the residue of 800 being reserved for distribution during the return procession. A gold medal was presented to every peer, prelate and Privy Councillor attending the ceremony. Each ambassador was allocated two medals and foreign ministers, one apiece. A further 658 gold medals distrubuted among Members of Parliament.” Apparently, inside the Abbey, there would be an unholy scramble to grab the medals thrown. Link to Royal Collection
