I have to confess I usually prefer 'less is more', too, but that is in the end personal taste. By the way, I actually would be interessed to know what the german empress though about her colleagues in Britain or Russia.
Some times ago Iīve seen a documentary about fashion. It reported about fashion makers in Morroco and notably about the lady who produces those robes. Not comparable to a couturier a Paris. Much more a tailoress with a studio, a manufacture with some women sewing and embroidering. The robes are for moroccian standards expensive and a status symbol. And it was clear that Lalla Salma could order whereever in the world she wants but she decided to wear these very traditonal robes. The key, the fitting has to be larger than the western style, long sleeves, long hem, the shoulder, everything has to be rich. Patterns and colours have to be appropriate to the status of the woman. What I understand was that the robes for Lalla Salma are quite a modern version.
She is the first 'First Lady' in Morrocco, the first who is been made a princess, the first wife of a morroccian king who is not invisible. Itīs not without controversy in the country. And so I think itīs a wise decision to take the people, the women where they are.

: Her caftans usually look like they have jewels
: sewn on, and woven with gold and silver.
: Could these be real precious materials in
: her garments? Or, embellishments typical of
: the region and readily available to women of

: The problem with Lalla Salma's jewels is
    : that
: they are worn in combination with very busy
: patterned and colouful robes. Less is more:
: the same jewels on plain uni coloured simple
: gown suddenly brings all eyes to the
    : priceless jewels.

: Wow...This rubi set is new to me. Lalla
    : Salma
: wore a more plain rubi set when the King and
: Queen of Spain visited Morocco some years
    : ago.

: Altough she is not regular news in this
: board, Lalla Salma does have spectacular
: jewels. She has them all: rubis, saphires,
: diamonds, gold, coral, and I still remember
: the egg size emeralds she wore in Thailand
: for the Kings birthaday some years ago.
    : Absolutely fabulous!
