Thanks Helen. I'll go look now.

: Thank you Helen. Can you give me the date
: of the ILN please? I did not think to
: search for dates earlier than the event.
    :
: I was thinking that the study photograph
: could have been posed before the event too.
: At the time there would have been both
: illustrators and photographers gearing up
    : for the event.
    :
: Just goes to show how careful we need to be
: over the authenticity of images back then.

    : Nellie, I think I can help.
: It seems as if Queen Mary's coronation dress
: was displayed prior to the Coronation as
: "this is the dress the Queen will
: wear.." - obviously it was displayed on
: a headless dummy and I have a photo ex the
: Coronation special edition of the
: Illustrated London News which shows QMary in
: her dress. Under the photo it says "to
: be worn at her crowning" and final text
: reads " We wish to emphasise again the
: fact that this illustration is composite -
: made up of a portrait of her Majesty and a
: photgraph of the gown and train".
: They used a photo of QM with a fringe tiara,
: the love trophy collar & her V shaped
    : diamond drop necklace.
: In the photograph that you show the
: photographers used another portrait of QM to
: paste above the dress - and they also
: decided that she needed a crown - any crown
    : would do!
