Ok. Your friend might still need help with some steps in detail.
If so, more detail can be added, such as -

Copy that string of image code.
    Open a new browser window.
Post the string in the long url or location field.
    Hit Return or Enter.
    Image is displayed.
Hover over image to get the zoom thing and tap/click to get the biggest view.
File > Save as - as jpg or jpeg - giving it a name of your choice. (This step depends very much on the specific software the person has.)

: Marianne - do you know how to view the
: source code of any web page?
: For my machine the path is - View > View
: source. There you see the code.
: Next go - Edit > Find and use
    : "main" without the marks.
: You get 9 instances and arrive at MAIN IMAGE
    : after about five clicks.
: About three lines further, the image code
: you want starts with http and ends with jpg

: Have just received a mail from a poster who
: wondered how to enlarge photos from the
: British Royal Collection for her own
    : archives.
: I know Nellie explained the procedure some
: time ago (in a way which was also clear to
: those whose mother-tongue is not english) so
: I wondered if she, or any other experienced
: poster (Boris? Baxter?) might perhaps be
    : helpful here ?
: Thanks for your help !!
