This is only speculation on my part, but I wonder if Madeleine did not wear the cameo tiara and family lace veil, because she may have been planning to do so for her first (ultimately cancelled) wedding. She was engaged for quite a few months, so it wouldn't surprise me if she had already engaged a designer to come up with some sketches or even started working on a dress for her before that engagement ended.
Regardless, she looked lovely today -- a great balance of traditional and modern sensibilities.
