Usually that is the style of the widow to a reigning King and Princess Beatrix never was.

I would say: according to the Constitution it is the King who organizes his House. In 2002 a modernized Royal House Act was given the royal assent by Queen Beatrix. As this Act is a furtherer regulation of the membership of the Royal House and the style and titles of its members, we may safely assume that all went in close consultation with the Queen and with her approval. People still addressing Beatrix as Queen are maybe insulting her in a certain way because this means they do not respect the arrangements made concerning the Royal House, backed by the Queen herself....., so: Princess Beatrix.

In the book 'Lonely, But Not Alone' Queen Wilhelmina wrote that she was inspired by the abdication of Charles V, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, King of Spain, Duke of Burgundy (and therefore Lord of Netherlands (today's Netherlands and Belgium), Etc. After his abdication Charles V renounced all his titles and went in the most formal form furtherer as Comte de Charolais. Most of the time however he was just 'Monseigneur' and nothing else.....

: The ring is from the famous jeweller Royal
