Thank you for sharing this story, Vincent! Love it!
--Previous Message-- : : Funny you should mention that photograph : Nellie, I actually bought it a few months : ago at an auction organized by Etude Coutau : Bégarie in Paris. : : It is rather big and shot by Boissonnas and : Taponnier which were the social parisian : photographers between 1900 and 1950. But the : reason I really wanted it is because it was : the first time I had seen princes Nicolas of : Greece wearing her mother in law's rubies. : : The story goes that the rubies were bought : one by one by king George of Greece to : assemble a set for his wife born grand : duchess Olga of Russia. The set was : inherited by their son prince Nicolas. And : after his wife death it went back to the : main line of the royal family of Greece. : : Finally i got the photographs at the : auction. And as soon as the auction was : over, a vey polite Russian art dealer came : to me asking if i wanted to sell this : photograph. One of his russian client really : wanted it and he told me he was allowed to : offer me three times the amount i had paid. : : Of course i said no, and i kept the : photograph. It is in a very nice old golden : wooden frame and rather grand. I love it. :
