The tiara started out more of a wreath and is supposed to have been worn by Désirée Bernadotte for Napoleon's coronation. She later took it to Sweden with her and her daughter-in-law Josefina decided to give the tiara to her granddaughter Lovisa when she married the Danish crownprince (as the rubies and diamonds represented the Danish colours).
