The succession will depend on who Aga Khan IV names in his will as his successor. The eldest son is not an automatic heir. Aga Khan III passed over his own son, Prince Aly Khan, in favour of his grandson Karim which became known when his will was read. There was no indication that either Aly or Karim knew of the decision prior to the will being read.
