Yes, secondhand books are often in good condition - owned by people who care for books - or in some cases, I think, just never read by the former owner. As I said in an earlier post I will continue to search antiquarian bookshops for the two main books on the Danish Royal jewels. --Previous Message-- : : About jewellery book buying, I have bought : secondhand for some years now and had : scarcely any duds. : It is always important to avoid the : descriptions that say ex-library copy !!!! : You will know what that can mean. : : I once got a book published in the early : 1800s and it had the original owner's pencil : comments throughout - but they were : fascinating, and added to the value of that : book. : I gave it to a friend - who collects that : older writing - because there was not real : jewellery information I had hoped for. : : : --Previous Message-- : I do envy you a clean and spotfree copy of : the : book - the thing I don't like about library : books is that they are full of people's : mysterious spots : : The thing about the two jewellery books is : that they are full of spots at the first : pages and to a lesser degree later in the : book. : : My theory is that people who don't : appreciate Jewels also must be the ones not : taking care of books : : And yes, both books are filled with a vast : amount of photos and illustrations! : : I do wonder how I for so many years missed : out on royal jewellery watching. : : : :
