I think this was a Midlle East gift... I agree with you, not the best of designs, nor easy to wear. Note how rigid the earrings are, they sure must not be very confortable to wear. A pity because these emeralds have a very beautiful shade of green, they would look splendid if placed on a more beautiful design.
I doubt this set will be dismantled, but any other design for the setting of these stones (that I assume, giving their provenance, are of high quality)would really be an improvement!
