Well, Cristina already said much I had to say. I'm convinced that the necklace is not made with contas de viana first because of the color (even though the picture can deceive us) but mainly because of the clasp. The necklaces of Contas de Viana traditionally do not have the type of clasps as the picture and I do not believe that the Duchess would alter such traditional piece. The portuguese traditional jewelery is very rich and, many times, goes back centuries. The necklaces of contas de viana has its origin in old civilizations that passed by what now is Portugal. The oldest bead of gold found in portuguese territory was from the 3rd millenium bc. With this knowledge's heritage the portuguese people became master of the techniques of manipulate precious metals and the portuguese filigree is known worldwide for its perfection and quality. If you are curious you can search through this online book that has lots of great pictures: http://museudaourivesaria.com/livro/ The whole website http://museudaourivesaria.com is a tribute to the portuguese tradtional jewels.
