LitleMo, The "gaps" are actually filled with pave-set emeralds and sapphires. I agree that it is hard to distinguish here but I am 100% sure it is this brooch. As far as I know, there have been no other public appearances of this brooch.
The other brooch from the Kelly book that I know nothing about is the small red bird brooch which is on the left had page. I'd love to hear anything anyone knows about this brooch.
