Re: New portrait of Queen Elizabeth II - tilted & cropped... Archived Message

I cannot presume to know Mr. Benson's inspiration for his provocative portrait but here is my take.

As Scotland stands teetering on the brink of separation with the upcoming referendum,
The Queen, gazing to the future through the winds of change, remains solid and resilient, unfettered.

She stands proudly with the sturdy thistle weathering the impending storm with the feeling that all will be resolved and righted in due course.

Maybe somewhat romantic but I like this portrait (more so than her birthday ones).
One gets the sense that, because this is HM, that the unevenness of things - including her neckline - will be straightened out soon enough as it has been for over 60 years.

GillW's tilted and cropped image is how, ultimately, we expect it all to turn out.

    Just my introspection.

    Cheers !
    Bryce
