Baxter - you got me to thinking and maybe I was too hasty in my comments above. The brooches do look out of scale to me but, in the cause of science, I dug a little further to see what I could determine. Since Hugh Roberts "The Queen's Diamonds" provide (assumed) accurate measurements, I compared the measurements of the Australian Wattle, Scallop Shell and QV Bow brooches in Kelly's book to those provided by Roberts. They all converted to approximately 60% of the actual size (give or take a couple of decimal points). I was really quite surprised. The Australian Wattle seem much larger when being worn in comparison to say QEQM's Scallop Shell and I never would have guessed that the Carved Emerald was as large as one of the Aquamarine Clips - it too seems larger. I tried to make some photo comparisons but I could not find any good scale sets of comparable pictures. Thanks for setting me straight Baxter. As an aside, it appears as though the floral brooch with the aquamarine "vase" is upside down. Cheers! Bryce --Previous Message-- : Just curious what specifically makes you think : these are not to scale. Nothing I see gives : me that impression. :
