Last week, on 16th October 2014, the Duchess of Cornwall delivered a speech at a reception to mark International Credit Union Day at Clarence House. Credit Unions are member-owned and member-controlled financial community banks which provide a place for their members to save money and access loans.

"As many people will verify I am no financial wizard, but it doesn’t take a money expert to recognize that Credit Unions can offer a common-sense basic banking service to so many people", said the Duchess of Cornwall, according to British newspaper The Telegraph. "They can encourage those who have the means to save, and bring in from the cold those vulnerable people who struggle to qualify for loans".

The Duchess of Cornwall was joined at the reception by a number of celebrity supporters, among them Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May and TV presenter Eamonn Holmes.

During this reception, the Duchess of Cornwall wore the new sapphire choker with an Art Déco sapphire clasp, that she had worn for the first time last 21 September, when she attended a service of thanksgiving and rededication at Westminster Abbey in honour of the Battle of Britain Fighter Association.
