Queen Mary's emerald earrings again Archived Message

Many thanks Baxter for the link to the previous thread where Queen Mary's emerald necklace was discussed.

Your photo from 1907 clinches matters in my opinion.

The second and third photo in your post show QM wearing what I think are small cabochon emerald earrings. The dates of when the photos were taken are, in my opinion, crucial for any evaluation about the earrings. Queen Mary was photographed wearing small emerald earrings at the investiture of Edward, Prince of Wales, an event which occurred before the Delhi Durbar.

I think that the information on the Royal collection site is important. It clearly states that the crown jewellers found a match for one of the Cambridge emeralds and made the earrings which Queen Mary wore for the first time at the Dehli Durbar. As they state a price, I am inclined to accept that this is not a mistake, and that the information has been taken from a primary source to which they have access.

The site also confirms your theory that what we call the emerald choker, as worn by the late Princess of Wales, is not part of the Cambridge emeralds and was presented to Queen Mary by the Ladies of India.
