Many thanks for such detailed information Arthur. I agree with you that, despite the assertion, no actual evidence of the Empress having owned the pearls is given.
More importantly, the description of pink pearls from the catalogue of the Empress' jewels sold in 1872, and described as set in "enamelled gold with brilliants", does not match the ones sold by Doyles, which have silver and diamond surmounts.
