Dmitry, I too wondered if the stone might be particularly fine jade. If the Princess were of Chinese or Malaysian descent, I would be very tempted to agree, as wearing jade is part of the cultural heritage of such ladies, even thought I suspect the shade of green is not right for jade. I am undecided. What you have suggested is a definite possibility. It is so very difficult to try to guess the composition of a stone from photographs, especially when there is not a good quality close up photo. (Even with a good photo, it is still almost impossible to make educated guesses - only a microscope and knowledge of the composition of gemstones gives us definite knowledge) In my limited experience, normally, except for very fine jade, there is not quite the same translucency but, Japanese royal ladies always wear particularly fine gems, so I am still guessing. I am glad you made the suggestion, as it makes us all think. --Previous Message-- : I would suggest that the pendant is jade. : : --Previous Message-- : HIH Princess Hitachi with an emerald & : diamond brooch/pendant. : : : : :
