    Dear Beth1,

Thank you for your kind photo concerning the hair ornament worn by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother as a Duchess of York.

Please note that Menkes and Field said in their book that the Queen Mother used to wear hair ornament when she was young.

Please also find an other photo of her wearing hair ornament

Please also note that the two authors said also that she had long pendant earrings as Duchess of York.

    Best regards,

    Franck

: Thank you Nellie and Annie,
    :
: My query was because the photos to which I
: posted the links were taken in 1934.
    :
: Baxter's post indicated that the first
: sighting of QEQM wearing earrings was in
    : 1936.
    :
: I apologise for not finding the link to
: Baxter's post, but I recollect Nellie that
: you made a joke that HM had her ears pierced
: to wear the Coronation earrings.
    :
: I have no idea when QEQM initially started
: to wear earrings - we can only try to find
: images showing her wearing them.
    :
: I can imagine that, as a young British lady,
    : she most probably didn't have pierced ears;
: however, that would not have prevented her
: from wearing clip on or screw on earrings,
: and so I would assume that she did not find
: the concept of wearing earrings to her
: liking or perhaps fashionable in the 1920s
    : and early 1030s.
