    Re: Astrid's emeralds Archived Message

Posted by karlimagnus on March 8, 2015, 2:06 pm, in reply to "Astrid's emeralds"

The rumour is that the peacock tiara has the stones from the emerald cross in it.

The part of Lilian having to sell her jewels for her daughter is not true. Most of the jewels at known auctions happened years before her death. If jewels were sold after her death they were of lesser value and importance. The disappearance of the Cartier Flower tiara, The Stockholm tiara and the Emerald Necklace/tiara, the cabochon emeralds... are still unaccounted for.

All her children did sell her furniture etc.. at auctions after her death reportely because that one daughter needed money but I think neither one of them really cared for things, regardless of the other ones finances.

IMO the grand pieces are gone too. Perhaps a private sale. Anybody with more info is free to span my inbox.

Why wouldn't Fabiola wear it? It's not even Lilian's originally. Fabiola did wear astrid's ten provinces one. The emerald tiara was Astrid's too. I just don't see it. It would be nice if it's all still there but I doubt it.

    : I thought Josephine-Charlotte inherited the
: diamond and emerald earrings and the round
: emerald and diamond pendant/brooch from her
: mother. Both pieces have been seen on her.
: The two other diamond and emerald pieces of
: the Nassau collection and the art deco
: bandeau of Grand Duchess Charlotte ordered
: for her by prince Felix and the peacock
    : necklace/tiara last seen on Marie-Astrid.
: That was a gift from Jean to
    : Josephine-Charlotte i would be surprised if
: he as the son and heir of a wealthy dynasty
: had the need to use the emeralds from Queen
    : Astrid for it.
    :
: So the big brooch (probably from Empress
: Carlotta of Mexico), the emerald cross
: pendant and the emerald necklace/tiara (both
: from Queen Astrid) were most likely with
    : Fabiola.
    : The necklace/tiara was a gift from Albert I
: and Elisabeth to Astrid when she gave birth
: to Boudewijn so it seems likely he inherited
    : the jewel.
    :
: Most of Lilian's jewels ended up in auction
: as her oldest daughter wanted/needed the
: money. Neither princess Marie-Esmeralda nor
: princess Alexandre were ever seen with
: Lilian's jewels making it safe to assume
: they were inherited by Fabiola at a time
: when she already started to wear less
    : jewels.
    :
: We don't know what provisions were made for
: the pieces she had, some may have been
: inherited directly by Philip others could be
: part of her inheritance and will be sold
: (hopefully the King will buy them from her
: estate so the money can go to the charities
: Queen Fabiola stipulated as her
    : beneficiaries).

: of the brooches of HRH Lilian Baels, the

: them but at some point she definitely wore
    : them.

: The origin of this piece is debated. It
: could possibly be from the Empress Charlotta
: stash. It’s current where-abouts are an even

: on Lilian they haven’t been seen in decades.
: The BRF has a long history of family fueds.
: That factor probably adds to the confusion.
