Leslie Field's book was written many years ago - She tells us that Queen Mary's diamond stomacher had not been worn in its entirety - Of course we Royal Jewel Enthusiasts were jumping around with excitement (metaphorically speaking !) when Her Majesty wore the stomacher at her Golden Jubilee Celebrations ! Therefore we should take the time lapse into account. Regarding these earrings - the gift from the Sheikh of Bahrain was a number of pearls - therefore in theory there could be other versions.
--Previous Message-- : : Joye, I wonder what the term "pendant : pearls" suggested to you? I suspect : that all our responses have been influenced : by our understanding of that term. Perhaps : that, combined with what I now think is an : inaccurate comment by Field, could explain : the difference of opinion we are having : regarding this set of earrings. : : My understanding is that round pearls, drop : pearls, pear shaped pearls and pearls of : many other shapes which are attached to : earrings with any type of super structure : (be they diamonds or other gems) can be : classified as pendant pearls. : : With the information we have at present, I : think that Arthur's suggestion is correct, : and that Field is inaccurate in saying the : earrings have not been worn in public. Of : course I could be wrong, and perhaps HM does : have another set of earrings which fits this : description. : : I had not thought through the issue of these : earrings, allegedly not worn in public, : until I read Arthur's post. : : I have re-read the relevant section in : Field's book. I cannot find any description : which would fit the Bahrain pearl earrings : (which are well known), which in turn makes : me think that Arthur is correct. : : Perhaps, this is one of those issues which : will have to await clarification until we : get more information from the Royal : Collection. : :
