The diamond necklaces with lozenge-shaped motifs worn by Princess Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie both come from their paternal grand-mother, Queen Alexandrine. Both necklaces could be connected together, to make a longer necklace or sautoir, as it was fashionable in the 1920s/1930s. Queen Alexandrine wore it in various lengths, often with a pendant connected to it. According to information provided on this board by (the well-informed and much-missed) Bjarne on this board in 2008, "the sautoir necklace that now belongs to Princess Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie was not taken apart for them. It was made to be parted in two necklaces and again into bracelets. The necklace was part of King Frederik's inheritage from his mother". --Previous Message-- : : Thank you for this history. I thought they : must be part of a sautoir or chain. Again : thanks. : : --Previous Message-- : They used to form one long necklace. It : belonged to their grandmother Alexandrine. : I'm sure Glenn could tell us more! : : I love following the jewels through the : generations. : : :
