According to Leslie Field's The Queen's Jewels (pages 111 and 134-135 of the 2002 reprint of the 1997 edition), this brooch, described as "an enormous oval baroque pearl set in a frame of brilliant-cut diamonds", had belonged to Queen Alexandra.
It was worn by Queen Mary when she was still the Duchess of York (it was probably a wedding gift from Alexandra, then the Princess of Wales).
