Surely, Sophie deserves to wear real stuff, and not fake jewels! I am happy to have this opportunity to get a good view of the Queen's Burmese ruby earrings (I call them that way, in parallel to the Burmese ruby tiara, to which they are visibly a deliberate match). Which makes me wonder about the whereabouts of the Burmese ruby tiara itself. If my records are OK, the last time the Queen wore this tiara (with other earrings) was on 27th October 2009, for the State banquet at Windsor Castle, during the State visit paid by the President of India, Mrs Prathibha Devi Singh Patil: As far as I can guess, this tiara - which was made with stones from dismantled jewels presented to the Queen for her wedding in 1947 - should be considered as a private jewel. And therefore, the Queen would probably be free to loan, or to give, it to any member of the family she wants. I admit it is only speculation from me, though (as this matter of distribution of the Queen's jewels between her personal private collection and the Royal Collection is all but clear!).
