...was worn for the first time in many decades. On May 13th 1995 the Duke of Braganza married Dona Isabel de Herédia.
The Dom Luís diadem (as Queen Amélia used to call it) was worn as bridal tiara by the new Duchess of Braganza. This piece was the wedding gift from King Dom Luís I of Portugal to his new daughter-in-law, Princess Amelie of Orleans. It was a favourite jewel of the Queen who wore it often and was portraited wearing it. On her last will the Queen left her portuguese jewels to her godson the present Duke of Braganza.
A beautiful portrait of Queen Amélia wearing the tiara coronet style as single jewel
A picture of the Queen in her years of exile wearing the tiara in a more open style. To my knowledge this was the last time the Queen was pictured wearing the tiara, I have not yet found any other picture of the Queen wearing with this jewel in posterior years of her life.
Dona Isabel wore the tiara again for the oficial pictures marking her 13th wedding anniversary. The pictures were taken by Homem Cardoso, portuguese royal house oficial photographer.
Since the royal couple is celebrating their 20th anniversary today I was really hoping to see new oficial pictures released...I am crossing my fingers . And, since it is known that the Duke often presents his wife with jewelry gifts, I think this a most perfect ocasion for another gift .
