It is quite some time since we had a thread devoted to the Russian fringe style of tiara or necklace. In response to the idea below at http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1436213410.html I decided to start this thread. My intention is to attract examples of this specific style rather than other ray types of jewels.
Beginning with Munn - "The famous retailers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were not only tempted to remodel existing jewels but also to reissue their most succesful designs. The best illustration of this is the Russian fringe tiara - literally dozens of these have been noted and probably hundreds were made; and without the most careful analysis, it is not practical to attempt to distinguish one from another. Furthermore, the 'mapping' of provenance by using portraits and photographs alone is a notoriously perilous business."
In the panel below Queen Mary is wearing Queen Adelaide's Friinge Necklace. The Queen, the Princess Royal, and the Queen Mother are all wearing Queen Mary's Fringe Tiara.
In the next, left to right are the Queen's City of London Necklace, then Queen Mary's Fringe Tiara twice.
