Queen Victoria and coloured jewels in widowhoodArchived Message

I was very surprised to find that Queen Victoria was wearing some coloured jewels rather frequently as a widow.
As a result of the extraordinary kindness of another poster, I read an entry from HM's diary stating that she wore a large opal and diamond circlet for the wedding of Prince Arthur in July 1879.
Additional reading in the last newspaper showed that HM wore her sapphire tiara, necklace and earrings, as well as her ruby parure and her opal parure on many occasions for Courts, Drawing Rooms and the Opening of Parliament. I didn't find any references to her emeralds.
It was a surprise to me. Unfortunately, there are no photographs.
