I have found a print in the Royal Collection depicting Queen Victoria, when a widow, wearing her sapphire coronet. http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/collection/search#/50/collection/605713/her-most-gracious-majesty-queen-victoria In my opinion this is not a fanciful depiction; rather it reflects reality, as all the jewels can be identified from descriptions in various issues of the Times where her wearing of coloured jewels is documented. For example The Times 7 February 1866, p. 11 reports that, for the Opening of Parliament, HM had large diamonds on her cap, wore a small coronet of sapphires and diamonds, a diamond necklace with a diamond cross containing a miniature of Prince Albert in the centre and the Koh-i-noor as a brooch. There are several reports, over the years, of this diamond cross being worn with various necklaces. The print is dated circa 1871-87, and the inscription at the base suggests to me that this was an officially approved print, not one published by various media outlets.
