On this detail of a photograph in the Royal Collection we can see that for Alexandra's first State Opening of Parliament as Queen Consort the necklace with its clusters of alternating motifs was worn in three segments suspended from Queen Victoria's bow brooches down the front of the skirt. The other two pieces often worn with the necklace, the lozenge-shaped brooch and the pendant, were pinned to the top of the skirt.
