Thanks for the additional information, Ursula, and for the link to the b&w picture which is probably a (mirrored) engraving taken after the original painting. The oval coloured version seems to be either a detail or a partial copy of the original painting. One can see a bit of the white fur trimming of the red velvet cape at the bottom left, while the engraving shows both arms and sleeves and more of the cape and fur. The original painting must show the princess accordingly, sitting in a chair with both sleeves and arms visible. I think the brooch looks more compact because it's depicted against the white dress (and the halftone screen of the print is blurring the details), while the red sash provides a rather harsh contrast which sets the fringes off against each other. I count 5 fringes in each picture with the same sequence of green stones and pearls (although to me they always looked more like moonstones). The green stones look a bit bigger in the painting, but that might well be artistic licence. But, as you say, the elements of the earrings might come from other parts of the parure or might be a later addition altogether. I think they somehow have the look and feel of 19th century Roman or Etruscan revival jewellery. Here's an original pair of Roman earrings (2nd - 3rd century) And here are two examples of 19th century revival jewellery
