Well I was somewhat surprised when I first found the picture. But let me add a bit more. Night 1. Dinner at the Élysée Queen Elizabeth wore the base of her crown. Night 2. Dinner at the British Embassy and Gala Performance at the Opera, Ruby Tiara and 2 rows of diamonds. Night 3. Dinner given at the Quai d'Orsay hosted by the Foreign Minister, followed by an entertainment featuring amongst others Maurice Chevalier. In one of the illustrated magazines of the day, I think a French one, there is an Artist's drawing of the Queen for the event. It looks very much like her Sunray Tiara and though it is obscured I always assumed Queen Alexandra's Diamond and Pearl Wedding necklace. So you can imagine I was very surprised some years ago to find this old Press Photo of Queen Elizabeth wearing what I recognise as the Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara and the necklace of 3 and 2 rows of diamonds making the necklace the Duchess of Cornwall wore at Apsley House during the summer. Wasn't the necklace remodelled in 1938, perhaps by Mrs Greville as a gift for Queen Elizabeth ? Any way I will make a big effort to find the photo and get it posted as I realise it is somewhat surprising. But how much were that evenings events photographed? and as they took place where the King and Queen were staying there are no arrival and departure pictures. If any one else can come up with pictures from that last evening in Paris I will be delighted as it will save me a certain amount of trouble.
