Unfortunately, I have no information Bryce, but what an interesting find. Your eagle eye has given us a lot to think about.
Re Princess Margaret's brooch. It certainly does look like the brooch was once the swag to a larger brooch or other piece - perhaps a sapphire brooch, but I am only guessing about the central stone.
I note that QEQM is wearing one of the Greville ruby brooches. This is the earliest photo I have seen of HM wearing one of these brooches.
