The French State refused to sell 3 items ea the Portrait of King Louis XIII by Ph de Champaigne from Belgium ! The Portrait of the Duchesse d' Orleans by Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun . They must stay in France.
The pre-emption right came here from Museums for historic Paintings and one Decoration of the Order of le Saint esprit: Versailles, Louvre , Chateau d'Eu , Légion d' Honneur and Chantilly (painting of the Horse Baba Ali)
For Sotheby's I logged in two times yesterday and to-day and was very interested by the way of doing by the best Auction Houses : the floor (attendance), Telephone, internet.
Applause for The most expensive item the Sevres Royal Service of Queen Amelie (450.000 euros) and each time there was the pre-emption right with the name of the Museum .
Total result 6.221.665 euros.
For jewels : Van cleef Brooch (1971) 6.800 euros, 2 Hermes brooches 1.500 euros , one pink sapphire ring : 1.200 euros + taxes....
--Previous Message-- : " Droit de préemption " is : translated in English by "pre-emption : right", I think. : : It means that the French State buys the item : in place of the last bidder, at the price : then reached by the auction. The last bidder : can not oppose it. : : I don´t remember, though, if the State has a : pre-determined extension of time to collect : the money and pay the required price : (otherwise the last bidder finally gets the : item). : : :
