More notes from 2008 (I have quite a bit on Alice's jewels. At the time we were researching the possible sources for the diamonds used for the Queen's engagament ring.) Edit: and for that tiara Sophie wore to the Danish wedding. All below was lifted from that 2008 thread and does not all relate to this thread in every detail (to avoid any confusion I hope). Star tiara worn by Alice for her wedding According to Diana Scarisbrick in "Tiara" Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, gave a star tiara to her goddaughter and niece Princess Victoria of Hesse, later Marchioness of Milford Haven. Victoria's daughter, Princess Alice of Battenberg married Prince Andreas of Greece in 1903 and appears to be wearing her mother's star tiara at her church wedding ceremonies. Scarisbrick says Victoria was visiting her sister the Tsarina Alexandra in 1914 when war broke out. Victoria had to leave in a hurry and left her jewels in the care of the Tsarina. "The Battenberg jewels were never seen again." "Princess Louise therefore gave Princess Victoria this tiara to replace what had been lost. It then descended to her daughter-in-law, Edwina" who had the stars remounted in a modern style. She gave it in turn to her daughter Patricia. I cannot see how the star tiara could have played any part in jewels of Alice's used for gifts from Philip.
