Here's a photo of Lady Carew that shows the tiara and necklace from another angle, courtesy the National Portrait Gallery website. The NPG features the jewels in this image as well. There's discussion of a famous set of "Carew emeralds" in several Edwardian-era publications. -- From the Lady's Realm, 1901: "The Carew emeralds are almost as well known and noted as were those of Mrs. Spencer Cowper (the wife of the late owner of Sandringham), whose uncut emeralds were of world-known repute." -- From The London Magazine, 1899: "the Carew emeralds ... are mostly finely-cut stones en cabochon." -- From the Timaru Herald, December 1902: "Lady Carew's finest emerald was presented to her by the Shah of Persia." Lady Carew also had a famous "ruby" (actually a spinel) that is now on display at the V&A in London. You can read more at my site here.
