I have gome back to Bury for references to opals in the Jewellery of Queen Victoria. "Among other items from her mother noted in the Princess's Journal were an opal brooch and earrings, a Christmas present in 1832." 1853 - the Oriental circlet, as we know it 1854 a "'very fine Opal & Brilliant Necklace' with twelve clusters, each with an opal in the centre.." and a large opal drop for an existing brooch. "Queen Victoria wore her opal parure with a yellow gown during the visit of the Emperor Napoleon III….and again with a pink dress…" in Paris. "The Queen left the parure to the Crown…" Opals were replaced by rubies in the entire set, some by Queen Alexandra in 1902 and the rest by Queen Mary in 1926. "An opal and diamond parure…figured among the wedding presents…to the Princess Royal in 1858." "Prince Albert went on to design similar suites for his second daughter Alice and his son Albert Edward's future bride. Both were made by the Queen's command after her husband's death in December 1861. Thereafter, all the royal daughters received opal and diamond parures on their marriages, with the apparent exception of Princess Beatrice in 1885."
