Of course, the pear-shaped emerald of Queen Frederika's pendant could possibly be removed from its diamond frame. I have also noticed that the dimensions of the emerald look very similar to the other emerald drops.

But contrary to the Vladimir tiara, the frame of Queen Frederika's pendant looks to be perfectly fitting to the dimensions of the emerald, which makes me wonder (without certainty, though) if this diamond frame could have existed from the very beginning. And I do not remember having ever seen this diamond frame empty.

As we know, the Vladimir tiara was not designed for emeralds, but for pearls; the Cambridge emeralds were added only later by Queen Mary as substitutes for the original pearls. But the dimensions are not perfectly fitting, as the Cambridge emeralds are slightly wider that the width between the diamond hoops; consequently, the emeralds are placed either on the front of the tiara, lying on the diamond hoops, or at the back of the hoops.

To be sure that the emerald of Queen Frederika's pendant is not the 8th emerald drop, we would have to find a picture where the Queen would be wearing the 8 drops + the pendant...
